Fire Training
With a diverse culture and population that Lincoln City and surrounding
areas has, firefighters must be ready to fight fire in any given
circumstance. From a small wood-frame home to a multi-million dollar
complex… or wildland urban interface fires to dealing with hybrid
vehicle fires… firefighting is an evolving practice that takes training
to perform safely and effectively.
NLF&R’s Training Division works to make
sure every firefighter is prepared for any situation. This includes
conducing annual
physical fitness and combat testing to assure all personnel can handle
the rigors of a major incident, tactical simulations for
Company Officers and Incident Commanders to practice techniques and
skills used on multi-unit responses, and
hands-on “Bread-n-Butter” training using tools needed on the fire
ground.
But training is not just about ropes, hoses and ladders. The Division
maintains records of all District training and personnel
certifications and offers incentives for attendance to courses around
the state and nation including the Oregon State Fire College (DPSST) and
the National Fire Academy. Probationary employees must complete an
Orientation and Training progream in order to complete their first year, while
firefighters wishing to promote must attend required courses for each
discipline they wish to excel in, including Driver/Operator, Fire
Officer, Fire Instructor or Manager. For more information about
the NLF&R Training Division and its programs, contact Division Chief
Michael Ryan at 541-996-2233.
